MoRHA July and August 2008 Newsletter
JUNE SHOW: The June show was sure fun and we had a good turnout despite the fact that the price of fuel had doubled from the June show in 2007. Jimmy Shaw, the President of the KTRHA drove up to preside over the June show and we were honored to have him. Did any of the rest of you notice that Jimmy has more western fashion style than anyone in the ARHA? From Buck-A-Roo boots to leather vests and bolero ties, Jimmy takes the Best Dressed Cowboy Judge Award hands down. Maybe they will make that a new class next year at the 2009 World Show: Best Dressed Junior Judge (ages 20-40) and Best Dressed Aged Judge (ages 40-to-"you need to get over yourself)." FALL SHOWS September 13 and 14 – Think pink! This is our annual 2-day, double-judged show at Midway Expo Center in Columbia, MO. Be sure to wear your PINK western wear because this will be the "Wrangler trademark – TOUGH ENOUGH TO WEAR PINK" benefit show. A portion of the proceeds, along with all the money collected from the silent auction will be donated to the Susan B. Komen Foundation for breast cancer awareness. ARHA judges Jackie and Tina Davis will be calling it their way in September. October 4 – This will be the last show of the season and a single judged show to be held at Midway Expo Center in Columbia, MO. Greg Denney will be our judge for this show. Plan on this show as your last run at the high-point awards for 2008! NOTE: This is a change from the previous date of Oct 18 and location of Mt. Vernon, MO! 2008 ARHA WORLD SHOW We want to congratulate all our members for their efforts at the 2008 ARHA World Show held in Murfreesboro, TN in June. Hailey Cue – 4th Walk-Trot (owned by Mary Stassi). I want to make note of a couple of MoRHA members who were outstanding in their world performances. Mike Kavanagh, our MoRHA president, won 3 championship buckles in one day. One was for the Get of Sire Class with 2 youngsters out of his 2007 champion stallion, Dun It Par. Another buckle was for the win in the Yearling Stallion Class with Cody Dun It JMK. Mike did it again and brought home the third blue for the 4 & over stallion class showing Cool N Any Company. "Coolie" is owned by member Salvador Aguilar and was the 2007 ARHA Reserve World Champion Stallion. Attention all you mare owners, these ARHA champion stallions are right here in Elsberry, MO. Another outstanding mention goes out to Lindsey Conti who, despite being "off her feed" for a month or so, proudly carried the American Flag around the arena each morning on her paint mare Rosie Deelight. Although Lindsey took the advice of her doctor and declined to ride in any classes, she won two championship buckles with her feet planted firmly on the ground. Way to Cowgirl-Up Lindsey! Did you see Debbie Smith while you were down there? Well, if you didn't it was because she was working behind closed doors in the office as a volunteer show secretary. Thanks for contributing Debbie. It is volunteers like you that make any event special. In fact, we could use some volunteers at ours shows. Any takers? Some of the jobs are those that earn all-day vouchers for future shows and are able to be sold or traded as you please. We sure were pleased that the ARHA chose our VP, Maryann Cash, as one of the world judges this year. From what I hear she did an outstanding job of being fair and impartial, but we would have expected nothing less from Maryann. She holds many Judge's cards and has years of experience in all equine fields. The MoRHA members are sure proud of Dennis Cappel for his outstanding performance in winning the 3-year-old Versatility Challenge. Dennis is now focusing on the Extreme Mustang Makeover, which will be held in Ft. Worth TX in September. Dennis will be one of 200 trainers trying to win $50,000 in prize money for training wild mustangs. Well, heck, now that I think about it, September is a ways off and the way prices are going up and up that $50,000 might just buy a full tank of diesel to get Dennis back home. Not incidentally, young Mr. Tell Ruggles, another of our youth members, won 2 championship buckles and 2 reserve champion titles in the cattle classes. Tell has been working with Dennis for a while and it sure shows. MoRHA hosted the World Show Ice Cream Social and I bet we were the most popular club at the show since the temperature was well in the 90's. We did order a little too much ice cream, but it turned out to be a good thing and we were able to provide another social in the evening and still had a few dozen cups left over the next morning for an ice cream breakfast. Ms. Quintana Garcia, one of our directors, pranced around in her pretty inflatable palomino costume. Her horse was a little unruly at first, but Quintana, being the excellent trainer that we all know and love, had that inflatable palomino doing flying lead changes by the time all the ice cream disappeared. Terry Luebbert was the MoRHA lead for the ice cream social and was everyone's favorite person when it came to handing out the cool treats. We also want to thank Purity Dairy of Murfreesboro, TN for giving our group such a great deal on the delicious ice cream cups. Hope to see you all in September and don't forget to visit all the sponsors we have listed on the webpage www.missouriranchhorse.com. If you have any comments, questions or concerns, please e-mail me at missouriranchhorse@yahoo.com. See you in September – Shannon Hart McInerney |
